OPA Sports Appreciation Party 2017
On the 23/12/2017 Saturday evening, the OPA organised its first ever Sports Appreciation Party at the OPA Penthouse to celebrate the various OPA sports sections or groups’ achievements and also to acknowledge their efforts in organising the respective sports activities while promoting the OPA’s good name and ‘brand’ in the sports fraternity. Through these activities it also help to further promote and maintain the strong brotherhood spirit of ‘OP-ism’ and camaraderie amongst the OPs.
All the key management and players of the OPA sports sections, namely, Cricket, Golf, Rugby, Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Ironman teams were invited to the party. The guests were entertained and serenaded by the live band “De Electras” of Institut Kejuruteraan Tentera Darat, Port Dickson while being served with a sumptuous buffet comprising local fare which included two whole BBQ roasted lamb. The event commenced with the welcoming speech by OPA President, OP Baharudin and followed by the presentation of awards to the OPA Cricket and Golf team for winning the Assak Cricket Challenge and the Inter-Alumni Quadrangular Golf Tournament respectively. The other sports sections received Appreciation Certificates in recognition of their great and conscientious efforts in advocating their respective sporting activities.
The special event was further graced by the presence of OP luminaries and sports personalities, notably; OP Radzi Shiekh Ahmad (Former Federal Minister), OP Shahrudin Ali (Olympian Sprinter) and OP Jagjit Singh (Hockey Olympian). The 3 OP celebrities gave very entertaining impromptu motivational and inspiring speeches and shared their experiences - including stories from “budak-boy days”, with the young OPs, and their hopes and dreams for the future.
All in all, the event was a great success. Everyone had a very good time and some even stayed late till past midnight to display their singing skills during the karaoke session. Thanks to everyone who came and kudos to the organizing committee!
