Intake 1970 of the Royal Military College “50th Anniversary of its Passing-Out-Parade” Celebration

On Wednesday 6th December 2023, 40 Old Puteras (OPs) from Intake 1970 (Intake ‘70) along with 20 spouses and 2 widows congregated at the Royal Selangor Club Bukit Kiara (RSCBK) to celebrate the “50th Anniversary of Intake ’70 Passing-Out- Parade (PoP)”.

It was on 8th December 1973 that Intake ’70 had its PoP at the Parade Square in the Royal Military College (RMC), Sg Besi. Many of the initial complement of 124 “Puteras” that originally joined the RMC in 1970 had already left for overseas on numerous scholarships awards by that date. Nonetheless, the PoP was a grand and momentous affair, indeed, for those who participated.

Hence, on 6th December 2023 it was decided to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Intake ‘70 PoP by organizing a luncheon at the RSCBK for those able to attend. Spouses were also encouraged to join the event, along with widows of our departed Intake Mates (23 brothers have, sadly, left us).

The gathering commenced with a group photo of all 40 OPs who were able to make it. It was then followed by a Welcoming Speech by OP Abdul Rahman bin Kassim, H Company’s (Coy) representative. H Coy was offered the honour since, for 2023, it was their turn to organize Intake ’70 annual gathering. He reminded the gathering to offer prayers to our 23 departed brothers as well as for the wellbeing of a few in our Intake who are currently unwell and bed/home-ridden.

This was followed by a sumptuous buffet luncheon spread catered by RSCBK. In addition, OP Muztaza Mohammad, our perennially benevolent supporter, kindly sponsored a lovely roasted whole-lamb, much to the delight of all.

While lunch was on, representatives of each Coy was invited to appear at the rostrum and narrate some interesting snippets of their stint at the RMC. Needless to say, it was quite a hilarious session – some previously unknown nuggets of unique incidents were only then revealed.

The gathering ended with a note from the Master-of-Ceremonies (MC) indicating that for 2024, it will be the turn of A Coy to organize the annual Get Together Do. Group photos of some individual Coys were then taken and all seemed reluctant to have to ultimately separate and depart for their homes.
