OPA SALUTES OP MOHAMMAD BIN AB RAHMAN (H COY; 1980-1982)

OPA salutes OP Mohammad bin Ab Rahman, (H Coy; 1980-1982), Army Jeneral, Datuk Seri, on his promotion to full Jeneral and being appointed as Chief of Army on 22 Mar 2023, taking over from Jen Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Zamrose bin Mohd Zain, also an OP (C Coy; 1978-1980) who is now on leave/resettlement training prior to his retirement on 22 Sep 2023.

OP Mohammad was born on 15 Mar 1964 in Machang, Kelantan. Had his primary education in SK Anak Askar Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu, Kelantan and his secondary education up to Form III in SM Sains Kelantan, Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan. He joined the Royal Military College, Sungai Besi in Jan 1980 into Form IV. After completing his Form V, he was sent to the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, USA in 1982 for the degree in Computer Science, under the Armed Forces Scholarship; graduated in 1987. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant into the Royal Malay Regiment on 1 Jul 1987. He started his military career as a Platoon Commander in the 4th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment based in Sungai Ara Camp, Pulau Pinang.

He has held various staff and command appointments at the battalion, brigade, division and Army levels as well as staff appointments in the Armed Forces level. He was the Deputy Chief of Army before being appointed as the 29th Chief of Army on 22 Mar 2023.

He has attended various mandatory career courses in the country and overseas including the Command and Staff College in Queenscliff, Australia, Law of Armed Conflict in Sydney, Australia and the Defence and Strategic Studies in Canberra, Australia. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Defence College, Kuala Lumpur and holds a degree in Defence Studies from the University of Canberra, Australia and a degree in Social Science (Defence Studies) from the National University of Malaysia.

OP Mohammad was bestowed with a number of honours by the State rulers and by the Yang DiPertuan Agong at the federal level, including the “Panglima Jasa Negara” (PJN) and the “Seri Mahkota Wilayah” (SMW), a Federal Territory award, which carries the title “Datuk Seri” by the Yang DiPertuan Agong in 2022.

He is married to Datin Seri Ramlah bt Dawi, housewife and blessed with three children, (one son and two daughters) and two grand-sons.
