OPA SALUTES OP ZAMROSE BIN MOHD ZAIN (C COY; 1978-1980)

OPA salutes OP Zamrose bin Mohd Zain, (C Coy; 1978-1980), Army Jeneral, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri, Chief of Army (11 Jun 2020-22 Mar 2023) on his pending retirement from the Armed Forces on 22 Sep 2023. A Farewell Parade was held for him on Wed, 22 Mar 2022 in the Sungai Besi Camp. On Thur, 23 Mar 2023 he handed over his appointment as Chief of Army to the Deputy Chief of Army, Lt Jen Dato’ Seri Mohammad bin Ab Rahman, also an OP (H Coy; 1980-1982), prior to him bidding farewell to the staff of the Army Headquarters in the Ministry of Defence.

OP Zamrose was born on 22 Sep 1962 in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Had his primary education in SK Tunku Besar, Tampin, Negeri Sembilan and his secondary education up to Form III in SMK Tunku Besar, Tampin, Negeri Sembilan. He joined the Royal Military College, Sungai Besi in 1978 into Form IV. After completing his Form V, he underwent the SSC Officer Cadet training in the Officer Cadet School, Port Dickson from 2 Apr 1980 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Royal Malay Regiment on 24 Jan 1981. He started his military career as a Platoon Commander in the 8th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment based in Tawau, Sabah.

He has held various staff and command appointments at the battalion, brigade, division and Army levels as well as instructors in a number of the military training institutions in the country. He was the Deputy Chief of Army before being appointed as the 28th Chief of Army on 11 Jun 2020, taking over from Jen Tan Sri Ahmad Hasbullah bin Mohd Nawawi, (now retired). He was due to retire on 22 Sep 2022, having reached the compulsory retirement age of 60 but was given an extension for another year until 22 Sep 2023. All in all he was in the Armed Forces and served the country for 43 years.

He has attended various mandatory career courses in the country and overseas including Diploma in Strategic & Defence Studies, University of Malaya (1996), Masters in Defence & Security Studies, National University of Malaysia (2002), Managing Defence in a Democracy Course, United Kingdom (2007) and National Defence College, Thailand (2008-2009).

OP Zamrose was bestowed with a number of honours by the State rulers and by the Yang DiPertuan Agong at the federal level, the highest being the “Panglima Setia Mahkota” (PSM) which carries the title “Tan Sri” by the Yang DiPertuan Agong in 2021.

He is married to Puan Sri Zainuriah bt Hj Mustapha, housewife and blessed with six children, (five daughters and one son) and three grand-children (two grand-daughters and one grand- son).

He is now on his retirement leave and resettlement training until his retirement date on 22 Sep 2023.
