The Old Putera Association (OPA), through its Welfare Subcommittee, launched a crowdfunding initiative in July 2025 to assist one of our fellow brothers, OP Ahmad Faiz bin Mohd Ghawi (F Coy 01-04). This initiative, themed “Let’s Help OP Faiz Walk Again”, aimed to provide financial support for critical medical equipment and treatment, as well as to ease the family’s financial burden during his recovery.

OP Ahmad Faiz is currently paralyzed and wheelchair-bound due to serious spinal injuries involving the C5/C6, C6/C7, T4/T5, L3/L4, and L4/L5 vertebrae. Doctors have recommended urgent spinal surgery that could give him a chance to walk again. While the surgery cost will be covered by the government, the metal implants (pins) required for the procedure cost approximately RM30,000 and must be paid out of pocket.

Beyond his medical challenges, OP Faiz is the father of four young children, and his wife has had to stop working to provide full-time care for him, further straining the family’s financial resources.

Within just a week of the campaign’s initial launch, encouraging support and momentum led to a renewed public call under the rallying message “FINAL PUSH TO HELP OP FAIZ WALK AGAIN”. OPA issued an open appeal to all members and the wider community through the association’s official channels, encouraging contributions during the blessed days leading up to 10th August 2025.

The appeal highlighted the urgent need for spinal implants to proceed with surgery, the importance of ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation therapy, and the necessity of family support during the recovery period. Donations were channeled through the Old Putera Association’s account.

The fundraising drive ran from 31st July 2025 to 10th August 2025, providing a focused and impactful window for giving and awareness. The initiative drew an overwhelming response from Old Puteras and friends of OPA, both locally and abroad. Contributions flowed in from across batches, reaffirming the deep sense of solidarity, compassion, and brotherhood within the OPA community.

By the close of the campaign on 10th August 2025, the total funds collected amounted to RM42,686.49. This exceeded the original RM30,000 target by more than 40%, ensuring that the cost of the implants could be fully covered and that OP Faiz would have additional resources to support his recovery journey.

The OPA extends its heartfelt gratitude to every donor, supporter, and well-wisher who contributed to this cause — whether through financial assistance, spreading the word, or offering prayers. This collective effort stands as a testament to the enduring bonds of the Old Putera spirit and the power of unity in times of need.
